About Us

Lifting As We Climb Consulting is owned and operated by Dr. Kimani Norrington-Sands who is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY 19557). Dr. Norrington-Sands is a Magna Cum Laude Graduate of Spelman College and obtained her Master’s as well as Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a Multicultural Community-Clinical Emphasis from California School of Professional Psychology. She has more than 15 years of experience providing mental health and consultation services in community-based agencies as well as schools. Dr. Norrington-Sands has facilitated trainings in the areas of: mental health awareness; trauma; cultural context and trauma; Psychological First Aid; crisis response; suicide prevention and intervention; threat response and management; and staff wellness. Furthermore, Dr. Norrington-Sands has a history of providing organizational consultation and editing services.

Lifting As We Climb Consulting focuses on supporting individual and collective healing by utilizing strengths-based, culturally grounded approaches.

In honor of those who have come before us and their faith, vision, determination, as well as resilience, Lifting As We Climb Consulting embodies John Mbiti’s quote of

“I am because we are and, since we are, therefore I am.”

and the National Association of Colored Women’s motto of “Lifting As We Climb.” Lifting As We Climb Consulting recognizes that our realities and destinies are interconnected. Therefore, it is essential to support the well-being and growth of others during individual efforts of forward movement.

Inspired by Fannie Lou Hamer’s quote of

“I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

Lifting As We Climb Consulting was developed to facilitate collective action towards social justice.
Social inequity cannot be addressed by sitting on the sidelines commenting on what needs to happen.

As poignantly stated by Toni Morrison,
